Aerobic exercise reduces cocaine self-administration in rats

In a rat study, animals with ongoing access to a running wheel used significantly less cocaine and escalated their use more slowly than sedentary rats, in both males and females. The findings suggest aerobic exercise can blunt the kind of escalating drug-taking pattern seen in addiction.
