About
Our Story
GetMotivated.ai began with Michael Goldstrom's personal struggle with ADHD. While training at The Juilliard School, studying psychology at Columbia University, and working as a professional actor, Michael discovered a simple truth: knowledge alone rarely leads to real change. People need structured experimentation, real human connection, and a way to see the results of their actions over time. Inspired by rehearsal methods—where you test, refine, and iterate—Michael created a platform that transforms advice into practical action through challenges.
Our Vision
We're building a future where technology supports human well-being and authentic connection—without falling into self-help hype or shallow engagement tactics. Instead of letting AI and digital tools manipulate behavior, we believe they can empower individuals and groups to set meaningful plans, follow through, and observe their outcomes. By turning scattered online advice into time-bound, focused challenges, we close the gap between what we know and what we do, treating people as multifaceted humans who move fluidly between different areas of life.
Why Challenges?
Challenges are the heartbeat of GetMotivated.ai—a marketplace of time-bound, cohort-based experiences that help you tackle anything from ditching unwanted habits to leveling up in a new skill. You can join a public challenge for wider group support, create a private challenge with just a buddy, or run multiple challenges at once if you're juggling different goals. Each challenge is a structured container for experimenting, measuring your follow-through, and learning from every step—failure and all.
Our Foundations
- Self-Determination Theory (SDT): We emphasize autonomy, competence, and relatedness so that change feels self-driven and sustainable.
- Köhler Motivation Gain Effect: Working in a group—or even as a pair—can increase individual effort and persistence.
- Behavioral & Cognitive Approaches: Insights from CBT, psychodynamic work, and habit-formation techniques (like Tiny Habits) shape how we help you test ideas and build real-world momentum.
By weaving these approaches together, we respect the reality that you're more than a single label; if you're cutting back on alcohol, you might also be a parent, a learner, a performer, and more—all at once.
What Makes Us Different
Accountability Score™
A transparent metric that shows how well your actions match your intentions. This makes tracking progress straightforward—and often eye-opening.
Four Domains, One You
We address Health & Fitness, Work, Learn, and Life in tandem. Your identity isn't one-dimensional; your challenges shouldn't be either.
Embracing Failure
We don't just allow for failure—we expect it. Every setback is a signal that helps you refine your approach. Real change takes time, honest effort, and respect for complexity.
Human-First Technology
While AI underpins many features, we place people's goals, relationships, and well-being at the center. Our tools enhance human connection rather than overshadow it.
Our Principles
Privacy and Fairness
We only use personal data to assist you—not to manipulate or exploit.
Decentralization
We aim to distribute power and decision-making so no single entity can dominate.
Mutual Transparency
We promote accountability by enabling individuals and institutions to observe actions honestly and ethically.
Flexibility and Freedom
We avoid over-reliance on surveillance tech. Tools should bolster personal freedom, not undermine it.
