A randomized controlled trial evaluated SIPsmartER, a six-month behavioral and health literacy intervention designed to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage intake among rural adults in southwest Virginia. Compared to a physical activity control group, SIPsmartER participants achieved significant reductions in daily beverage calories and body mass index across all health literacy levels.
