Ketogenic diets in clinical psychology: examining the evidence and implications for practice

Review arguing brain metabolism has been an under-addressed factor within clinical psychology and proposing that ketogenic diet interventions be integrated into biopsychosocial treatment approaches. Reviews evidence for ketogenic diets in major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia via neurotransmitter modulation, reduced inflammation, and improved brain energy metabolism, and positions dietary metabolic therapy as complementary to standard psychiatric care rather than a replacement.
