Addiction spectrum disorder: a conceptual framework for comprehensive understanding of addictive disorders

This paper proposes a conceptual framework that classifies substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, and food addiction along a single spectrum. It argues that these diverse conditions share core neurobehavioral mechanisms centered on negative reinforcement, compulsive seeking, and cue-induced associative learning, with food addiction serving as an intermediate phenotype.
